In the autumn of 2020, Seline Zijderveld dos Santos, an intern at the Brabant Delta Water Board, took four samples of aerated wetland filters from Rietland (Phytoair®). The system at Play farm den Scherpenberg has been in operation for over a year. The influent and effluent of an aerated wetland, a little further on in Zundert, were also investigated strawberry grower Van Aert. In April 2020, a Phytoair was built for a number of mobile homes that house about 50 seasonal workers. The Brabant Delta water board shares this data with the sanitation monitor and in this way contributes to increasing knowledge about new sanitation, more specifically aerated wetlands. The samples were analyzed by the Aquon laboratory. The results of these four samples from two different projects substantiate the high effluent quality of the Phytoair. Suspended dust and organic matter are completely removed. Nitrogen has a removal percentage that varies between 75% and 89% with a maximum effluent concentration of 27mg / L. The removal percentage of phosphorus is higher (83% - 90%) with a maximum effluent concentration of 1.7mg / L. These analyses demonstrate that the Phytoair quickly achieves high removal rates after installation. The results are better than the proposed IBA class 3b and are comparable with effluent from an urban WWTP.
